We believed that the closest collision with the Milky Way galaxy would be 8 billion years from this generation. We thought that it would be with the Andromeda galaxy. However, a recent study by astronomers says that there is another collision that will happen even sooner than that. They estimate it will be 2 billion years from now, with the Large Magellanic Cloud. And, if you believe the research that one in six stars has a planet that can host life, this could mean ALIENS. And, they could kill humans on Earth and take the resources for their own.
The Large Magellanic Cloud Will Collide with the Milky Way
The Large Magellanic Cloud is one of the Milky Way’s satellite galaxies. It orbits our galaxy, at about 163k light years of distance from Earth. The astronomers now believe that their previous estimates about the Large Magellanic Cloud’s orbit were wrong. In fact, these estimates suggest that the galaxy will collide with the Milky Way in 2 billion years.
When it collides with the Milky Way, it will impact the large black hole that is at the center of our galaxy. And, it will cause the black hole to emit bright radiation. Some predict that it will send our solar system soaring through space. But, others predict that we will just see space “fireworks” as the black hole at the center of the Milky Way gives off radiation.
Will the Aliens Come?
A more sinister prospect is that along with the Large Magellanic Cloud will come alien civilizations. So far, we have not discovered any alien civilizations in our galaxy.
However, there is research that one in six stars has a planet that can host life. So, the Large Magellanic Cloud can bring other stars, solar systems, and strange aliens. And, if these aliens already ran out of their own resources in their home solar system, they could go after Earth’s resources.
