The toy is for people of ages 12+. With a total of 294 pieces, the item is more complex to build than regular LEGO parts. The design for the koi fish includes different skins: the standard Koi Skin, Shark Skin, Splash Koi Skin, or decorate your own with Ink Koi Skin. Each koi skin has a minimum of 28 pin elements. A gear system allows the user to twist the gear to generate lifelike movement in the koi toy. When finished, the weight of the Koi fish is 6.132 ounces, with a 10-inch height, 5-inch width, and an 11-inch length.
Design Thought Process
The Lego Forma team wanted adults to tap into the ability to use your hands and creativity to build an item. In the process of designing the product, the creators spoke with adults about their needs to get their input and use the feedback to improve the process of LEGO design and creation.
Alongside the process, the Forma team also conducted the LEGO “Play Well” survey, which found that 91% of adults believe that play is good for them, and 87% of adults believe that construction toys such as LEGO help them be creative. The survey also found that 86% of adults state that play helps them feel more relaxed, and 76% of adults say that construction toys such as LEGO toys appeal to them more than other forms of play.
How to Build
There are 3 steps to build this Koi Fish. First, you have to build the Koi from the sturdy rods and connectors. Then, you snap on the Koi Skin (which you can customize).
After you set up the Koi fish, you turn the crank at the base and watch it move, with nature-inspired lifelike motions.
